How to keep your phone cool and fast while gaming
Practical tips to stop thermal throttling from ruining your ranked match.
Why phones slow down mid-game
When your phone gets hot, it deliberately slows the processor to protect itself — that's thermal throttling, and it's why a game that starts at 60fps can feel sluggish twenty minutes later. These tips delay or reduce that slowdown.
What actually works
- Remove thick cases during long sessions — they trap heat.
- Lower graphics settings slightly; 'smooth' at stable fps beats 'ultra' at stuttering fps.
- Don't charge while gaming if you can avoid it; charging generates significant heat.
- Play in a cool room and out of direct sunlight — obvious, but it matters.
- Close camera, maps and other heavy background apps first.
- Take a 5-minute break every 30–40 minutes; your phone and your eyes both recover.
What doesn't matter much
'RAM booster' apps mostly just restart background processes your phone will relaunch anyway. Focus on heat and settings instead — those address the real bottleneck.
